Peter Blackbeard

Next up for 2018 is Peter Blackbeard from Satanic Dagga Orgy

Peter Blackbeard is the lead singer for Satanic Dagga Orgy, and one of the founders of Speedofest. He is an amateur gardener and a professional dickhead. He’s been called ‘that oke with the beard’ but that could also have ben Kobus de Kock or Carl Dos Santos. His 1st ever performance was doing karaoke to Brayn Adam’s ‘Summer of 69’ and he only figured out in 2015 that Al Simon was calling someone ‘Betty’ and not ‘Eddie’

1. What is your favourite song from the 90’s?

Semi-charmed life – Third Eye Blind

‘Semi-charmed Life’ from Third Eye Blind – it’s upbeat, super catchy and is secretly one of the most depressing songs on the planet. I like that everyone sings it without knowing it’s about Meth addicition. Either that or TLCs ‘Waterfalls’

2. What is your favourite local song?

Maximum – Fuzigish

Fuzigish – Maximum. Fuzi are the fucking best. That is all.

3.What is your favourite balls to the wall rock song?

Killing in the name – Rage against the Machine

4.  Who is your favourite female vocalist (solo or part of a group/band) – choose one song from her.

Katie Earl from The Mowglis – San Francisco

At the moment it’s probably Sarah Blackwood from Walk Off the Earth or Katie Earl from The Mowgli’s – here’s The Mowglis with ‘San Franciso’

5. What is your favourite song from 2017?

Here I am – Grassy Spark

1. Wat is jou gunsteling 80’s song

Michael Jackson – Smooth Criminal

Eks ‘n ’89 baba, so ekt al my 80’s music in die 90’s geluister.

2. Wat is jou gunsteling local song?

Tweak – House Party

Simon & Garfunkel – The Boxer

4. Wat is jou guilty pleasure song?

Taylor Swift – Love Story

Well eintlik enige Pre-Psyco Taylor hahaha. Niks fout met ‘n stukkie Country-Swift nie .

5. Wat is jou gunsteling song van 2017

Tiny Moving Parts – Caution

Ek dink ek kies hom oor ek lanklaas so opgewonde was oor ‘n nuwe band wat ek begin luister het. Soos ek kanit nie explain nie. As jy van Punk-Rock, Pop Punk of net lekker music hou check Tiny Moving Parts uit…

Kieron Brown

The 2nd last person we talk to this week is Kieron Brown, aka Bam Bam Brown

Bam Bam Brown is the darling son of the Cape Town music industry. Widely considered as one of the Mother City’s most unique and fresh new acts, Brown originally cut his teeth as frontman of local stalwarts Saintfearless and Feverstone, as well as being the brainchild for the much acclaimed QOTSA tribute show series, and the Wild Professors music network that aims to provide consistent collaboration between all cultures and creeds. He can be seen on tour this Summer with Southern WIld, Brynn and Hezron Chetty & The ZugZwang

1. What is your favourite song, pre 1980

The Doors – Break on Through

This was the first song I ever remember being absolutely enchanted by. A killer rhythm, simple but effective poetry and the first time I recall being properly switched on by a band.

2. What is your favourite guitar solo in a song?

Incubus – Moments and Melodies

Chris Bornman (Stoker) came running over to my place when this album dropped and it is hands down our favourie guitar solo. Partly because it’s a prime example of how less is more, and partly because we both got comfort in knowing you didn’t have to shred to deliver a timeless guitar piece.

3. Who is you all time favourite vocalist, male or female?

Allison Mosshart of The Kills – Black Balloon

I think comparison hinders me from picking my favourite male vocalist, but I could listen Alison Mosshart sing for days on end. I love it when a vocalist can deliver so many sincere versions of themselves vocally. She is fierce, tender, hurt, turned on and fearless in her singing.

4. What is your favourite “chill” song?

Khruangbuin – Mr White

I just discovered this band at a friend’s house in Berlin. I picture myself coming home to a shag carpet with a pet panther and a clap light with a disco ball attached to it. It’s by far the smoothest music I’ve had the pleasure of listening to in a long time.

5. What is your favourite song from 2017?

Kendrick Lamar – Rigamortis

It’s actually no secret I am a fan of hip hop. Not to discount the trap era but I am anticipating it’s end to make way for more intellectual, and ground breaking music. Hip Hop moguls are the rock stars of our now, and deservedly so. This track is an old Kendrick song but it has dominated my year, and my playlist.

In my spaartyd DJ ek by rock bars, manage ek bands en kyk ek live gigs. Hoe meer hoe beter, daar is nie beter terapie as ‘n speaker in my gesig nie.

Led Zeppelin – Immigration Song

Is daar ‘n meer badass song? Elke keer wat ek dit hoor (of enige Led Zeppelin) wil ek net kreatief wees terwyl ek te veel rum drink.

2. Wat is jou gunsteling local song?

Mango Groove – Special Star

3. Wat is jou gunsteling song vir ‘n rainy day?

M83 – Wait

M83 is one fo my favourite acts in the world. They bring a mixture of electronic and classical music that I cannot get enough of. Plus this video still confuses me to this day.

5. Wat is jou gunsteling song van 2017

Fokofpolisiekar – Dis in my bloed, baby

Bedags is ek ‘n digital bemarker vir ‘n aanlyn publikasie maatskappy. Ek skryf baie oor Suid-Afrikaanse musiek.

2. Wat is jou gunsteling local pop song

Brenda Fassie – Vulindlela

Ek’s mal oor “Toe Vind Ek Jou” – Francois Van Coke & Karen Zoid

Call me old school, maar ek love nog steeds “Hemel Op Die Platteland” deur Fokofpolisiekar. Daar is min songs wat ‘n impak so groot soos die ene op my gemaak het in my bestaan.

5. Wat is jou gunsteling song vir 2017

Royal Blood – How did we get so dark

Hierdie is ‘n tricky ene, maar ek sou sê – Royal Blood se “How Did We Get So Dark?” (FYI: Die hele album is nogals befok, so luister dit as julle nog nie het nie)

Stefan Burger

1. Wat is jou favourite local balad?

Herman Kleinhans – Vir Megan

Ons wou protesteer, Maar was nie seker hoe of hoekom nie.

3. Jou favourite 90’s song?

Pearl Jam – Jeremy

Ek was midde my sielkunde studies. Vandag meer relevant as ooit. Daagliks in my werk.
